Jason Hunter’s dwindling bank account is a daily reminder that Jason never should have left his job at a prestigious law firm to start his own practice, a solo shop located in uncomfortable proximity to a strip club. Hope arrives in the form of Maggie Moxley, a legal assistant who tearfully claims that Robert Spelkin III—her boss, and the office’s most profitable partner—sexually assaulted her at work. Looking to transform Moxley’s misfortune into profits, Jason takes on Spelkin and his powerhouse firm, Levitt, Bennett & Taylor, LLP. Spelkin, a man of unbridled ambition and aggression, demands not only victory but Jason’s legal dismemberment. Levitt engages Rebecca Trent, widely regarded as the city’s best employment litigator, to embark on a campaign that will annihilate Jason, his little firm, and his client.
Jason’s only weapon is the truth of what happened that night. But the more he gathers evidence, the more he questions whether Moxley has told him the whole story. Meanwhile, Moxley’s accusations initiate a series of events whose consequences extend far beyond accuser and accused, creating chaos for everybody in their orbit.

Seeing that there could be a huge payday involved here, Jason takes the case and goes after the big shot. What follows after is a series of events which could bring Jason and his small practice tumbling down. All the while, more information about the night in questions continues to come out and begins to take hold of more and more people until it appears that no one will be able to escape the case. The Prick. I have to say, I really like the play on words in the title. Is it talking about how one person can burst another's bubble? Or is it referring to the term used to describe a person who does horrible things? In reality, both apply here. So, well done on the title. The narrative dives right in and does not slow down at all. The opening chapter is a tense situation between Jason and Maggie along with her slightly crazy husband. It sets the stage for everything that will come after. The novel also does a good job of not getting too bogged down in legal jargon and allows the reader to easily understand the actions taking place. I really liked the characters, even the ones that I hated, because I was able to understand their perspectives on what was happening. Very nicely written.

The Prick edition by DC Wales Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Truth is always singular, there is always more than one version of it, and they
are all ‘mistruth’. But for a man who is willing to sacrifice everything for a new
opportunity to recover his former glory, Jason Hunter must ask himself, who is
innocent and who is the real responsible to blame?
This is a really intense story, there are a lot of perspectives here, on one side
there is Jason whose life’s been unfair to him after he regret to move on of his
boring, but comfortable life, he is somehow looking for a redemption here and is
presented by Maggie who came up with a case oddly predictable at first, but as
with everything, there is more in this than what it seems. I really love it, the
twists here fed the story to make something richer and far more intriguing than
just a legal dispute, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories like this
that deals in interesting and refreshing new ways to modern day problems.
I must say, I wasn’t expecting this to be nearly as good as it was. Stories about lawyers usually bore me, I am not a huge fan of any shows, movies or books where there are legal cases, courtrooms, lawyers and all the sneaky stuff around them. Well, that being said, this was quite good and entertaining. Out main character gets a case that seems to be classic sexual harassment, but there is more to it, and it spins and goes in all the places you don’t expect, I won’t spoil the twists and turns here, but they are plenty. The writing is on par, dynamic and fun, the author knows his way with words. I mean, you can see that even from the title. Characters play a second fiddle in this novel, at least for me, because it is all about the interesting case, but they are well-rounded and believable. This is not a perfect book by any means, it is not particularly original and something is missing, I can’t exactly put my finger on it. That being said, it is a lot of fun, suspense and interesting plot that drives you till the end.
The story starts with Maggie sobbing and crying in the office of Jason Hunter’s The Law Offices in Atlanta. Pete Moxley, a dumb-as-a-mule husband of Maggie Moxley. Maggie accused his boss Robert Spelkin of harassing her. Therefore, the couple had gone to Jason’s office to file a lawsuit but Pete appeared to be less concerned about the lost honor of his wife and was seeking money. Demand letter had a monetary demand of two million dollars for pain and sufferings of Maggie. At first, Robert denied the fact of harassing Maggie but later agreed to increase the compensation payment from $25,000 to $37,500 which could be due to the fear of losing his reputation. The Moxley case was crucial to the Law Offices of Hunter and could revive him from financial burden. In support of Robert, he had David Nichols who once had brought about eighteen million a year in firm revenue had a litigation team in support of Robert. Robert did not want his wife to know about the accusations because of fear of losing his family life. The novel is good work without using legal jargon and allowing the reader to understand every action. I will recommend the novel to anyone who enjoys stories like this because it deals with controversial modern day problems in a realistic and tantalizing manner.
In The Prick by D.C. Wales, Jason has just left his cushy job with a prominent law firm to go out on his own. To his dismay and frustration it is a hard road, until a client, Maggie a legal assistant, comes into his office. Filing a claim of sexual harassment against her employer, a big-wig himself, Maggie thinks the case is cut and dry. Or is it? While on the surface this book may seem to be only about a sexual harassment case, it is much more. The author takes a hard look at the dark side of all humans, with deft characterization and evil doings. This is a multi-layered story with plenty of suspense, surprise twists throughout and astute observations about humanity. Wales writes with expertise and confidence, pulling the reader in successfully in the beginning pages, with a bit of salacious detail and overt, emotional drama. An entertaining book that deals with a controversial subject in a realistic and tantalizing manner. Highly recommend.
